MFARMC Meeting Conducted
The Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (MFARMC) is created by virtue of Executive Order No. 240 series of 1995 and mandated under the Chapter III of the Republic Act 8550 otherwise known as Fisheries Code of Philippines. The Council is created to institutionalize the major role of local fisherfolks and other resource users in the community-based planning and implementation of policies and programs for the management, conservation, development and protection of fisheries and aquatic resources of the municipal waters as defined by the Local Government Code.
The MFARMC is formed by fisherfolk organizations/cooperatives and NGO’s in the locality and assisted by the LGU’s and other government entities. Functions of the council is to assist in the preparation of the Municipal Fishery Development Plan, recommend the enactment of municipal fishery ordinances, assist in the enforcement of fishery laws, rules and regulations in municipal waters and perform such as other functions related to the fishery sector.
Thus, a regular meeting of the council is conducted to ensure the success of all programs and projects related thereto. Last January 16, 2018, the MFARMC convened to discuss different issues, programs and activities related to fishery sector. It was presided by its Chairman Mr. Fulvio P. America who is very eager to stop the illegal fishing in the locality, co-chaired by Municipal Agriculturist Lolita T. Abayan. The meeting was also attended by Ms. Elizabeth Cagnayo – BFAR Region III staff to discuss various programs and activities of the bureau.
